Creative Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Description:
The Mechanical Designer creates 3 Dimensional (3D) CAD models and 2 Dimensional production drawings of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems from specifications, source control drawings, sketches, models or prototypes. Using Pro/ENGINEER CAD software, you will have opportunities on Optical focused exciting projects such as:
- Optics for high-powered laser weapons
- Scientific and tactical instruments
- Ultra Precision Parts Manufacturing
- Diamond Turning Machining
- Telescopes
- Air-borne instrumentation for NASA & Military
- Experience with Pro/ENGINEER CAD software a plus
- Experience with machining, precision instruments, optics a plus
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Use 3D Computer Assisted Design software to develop designs
- Create and revise production drawings (detail and assembly drawings)
- Check dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project
- Create detailed multi-view hand sketches of products prior to starting work in CAD software
- Model finished designs from sketches using CAD software
- Analyze engineering sketches, specifications, and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape, and arrangement of parts
- Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications
- Perform preliminary and advanced work in development of working layouts and final drawings adequate for detailing parts and units of design for new proposals and current designs
- Make revisions to size, shape and arrangement of parts to create practical design drawings
Education and Experience (One or more of the following):
- Associate's degree (A. A.) in CAD or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
- 2 — 10+ years related experience and training
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
Competencies and Qualifications:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and capable of self checking for completeness and accuracy of work produced
- Ability to take initiative and able to contribute in design reviews
- Skilled in PC usage and associated software including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation preparation software
- Ability to learn new graphic software
- Good manual dexterity and familiarity with assembly of small parts
- Familiar with proper assembly procedures for precision instruments and able to assist with assembly of developed designs
- Experience with Pro/ENGINEER CAD software a plus
- Experience with machining, precision instruments, optics a plus
WMD, LLC intends for this to be a full-time, permanent position based in our Havre de Grace, MD office. However, a contract-to-hire arrangement or remote employment may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Benefits for full-time, permanent employees include health insurance, 401k and professional training.
Salary Range $40-$80K
