Position Title: Mid to Senior-Level Designer or Design Engineer

Welch Mechanical Designs, LLC, designs and manufactures high precision optical systems for commercial, military and scientific applications. We specialize in telescopes, lasers and complete optic systems ruggedized for deployment in diverse environments. Our efficient operating model makes us very competitive and we are looking for new team members to help us grow.

Position Description:

• Develop concepts and specifications and perform trade-off analyses
• Turn specifications into detailed mechanical designs
• Defend designs both informally (emails, verbal) and formally in design reviews
• Coordinate the manufacture, assembly, alignment, testing and support of optomechanical designs
• Interact with vendors and customers
• Estimate costs and help write quotations
• Help write and maintain engineering standards
• Ability to grow and move into new positions as the company grows

Required Education and Experience:

• BS in engineering and 4+ years of applicable experience
• Or Associates degree with applicable course work and 8+ years of applicable experience
• 1 year Pro/ENGINEER CAE software

WMD intends for this to be a full-time, permanent position based in our Havre de Grace, MD office. However, a contract-to-hire arrangement or remote employment may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
